Faux Piped Binding Tutorial

As you will find out, if you don't already know me, I wake up very early and most of the time can't go back to sleep. So I grab my iPad and surf the web. Usually I'm looking for anything quilt related.

On one of these nights or mornings, not sure how to categorize it, I was looking for idea's on binding. This is also when I ran into another idea that is in a prior post. When I was the tutorial I just fell in love with it. So I want to share it with you.  So click on the title to go to the tutorial.

Have a great week,
Rae

Inspiration

I'm a little late this week with my post. I've been looking for inspiration. I just realized that the times I've been inspired the most, I wasn't looking for it. It was there all along waiting for me to see it.

That happened today. I was working on a quilt design for a baby quilt. The client gave me the fabric and a picture of a quilt and wanted me to make a quilt that was like it, but didn't have all the same fabrics and not enough of the other. Try as I may I just couldn't make it work to my satisfaction. I did come up with some designs sent them to my client for approval. She kind of liked one, but did free me to see inspiration, she said just play around with it, and I did.

Now we both are excited about the design and it will be a beautiful quilt.

How have you been inspired?

Have a wonderful rest of the week.

Quilter's love to share

Maybe it's just my experience, but I've found that quilters are a sharing group of people. I know I like to share! If I start talking about quilting you'd better hold onto your hat, because I'll share all the little tips and tricks that I love.

Now that being said, I'll try not to share everything at once. So, the tip this week is regarding machine binding.

I found this tip online about 6 months ago, during a sleepless night. I was looking for a better way to machine bind. I just happened to stumble on a post, Happy Feet - Quilt Binding Edition, by Lisa Yarost of A Woman A Day blog. Yes it's a long post, but it is well worth it. You don't have to read the whole thing, but you can scroll down to the tutorial. That is where she explains (with lots of pictures and a YouTube video) how to use a 9mm Flat Felled Foot to put on binding.

Now my variation, is to use a 1/4 inch walking foot to put the binding on the back of the quilt, and then switch over to her method on the front. It works out great.

I had to go to my sewing machine dealer to purchase the 9mm Flat Felled Foot. For my machine it was not cheap, but well worth it. If you look around you can find some generic feet online that are cheaper. You can also buy the foot, try it out, and if you don't like it return the foot, be sure to check out the return policy first.

I hope you like it as much as I do. Have a great week.

I'm having a Trunk Show

I couldn't wait until Sunday for my next posting.

I have a booth at a local market (Third Monday McKinney Trades Day), I use it more for marketing than immediate sales (that's about to change). I've been missing out on an opportunity, by not having items other than samples.

Knock, knock, knock...  Hello, who is it?  Opportunity!

Opportunity came knocking this week while talking to my sister in law, she was telling me about a wonderful quilt designer, Amy of Amy Bradley Designs. I just love her designs. Well, I called ABD to see about selling her designs, and now I'm having a Trunk Show. She is sending me quilts (samples) and patterns (for sale starting at $0.75). How lucky am I!  I'll have them for two months and you can see a couple of the finished quilts as well as pick up some wonderful patterns.

Check out my website (www.raesewcreative.com), under patterns and you'll see a few of them. You don't need to wait until May 16th to order a pattern or two, or three, or more...

Don't miss your Opportunity.

Until next Sunday, have a wonderful rest of the week,
Rae

In the beginning...

Well, it's time for me to jump on the blog bandwagon. I hope that you will join me. I will be posting on a weekly basis, maybe more if there are a lot of things going on.  I want to share  information regarding quilting, fabric, patterns and tutorials.

I'll leave it at that for the moment. I need to work on the layout of the blog and changes to my website, www.raesewcreative.com.

So for today, happy quilting.
